Salisbury Monument Company is the premier full-service memorial maker on the Delmarva Peninsula, dedicated to providing families with timeless, beautifully crafted tributes.

Our story began in the early 1900s when the company was founded by Mr. T.J. Truitt. During World War II, Mr. Truitt hired and mentored an apprentice stonecutter named Samuel J. Disharoon IV, passing along the art and discipline of fine memorial stonework. Following Mr. Truitt’s passing, his widow faithfully continued the business until her own death in the 1950s. Stewardship then passed to Mr. Truitt’s son-in-law, local schoolteacher Mr. Russell Lawson, who kept the doors open by working holidays and summer recesses.

In 1957, Mr. Lawson sold the business to Mr. Disharoon, who resumed full-time operations alongside his son, Samuel J. Disharoon V. Fifteen years later, in 1972, the younger Mr. Disharoon purchased the enterprise from his father. For generations since, the Disharoon family has personally owned and operated Salisbury Monument with steady devotion to their community.

Through the decades, Salisbury Monument has continued to grow, providing hand-crafted granite, marble, and bronze memorials to families across Delmarva and throughout communities east of the Mississippi. Combining generational stoneworking heritage with modern engraving and carving technology, the vast majority of our lettering, etching, and finishing is completed directly on premises.
